State’s bid to ensure water availability in summer

The Chief Minister Mr Shivraj Singh Chouhan has given instructions to ensure availability of drinking water in urban and rural areas during summer and chalk out action plans for the critical areas. Mr Chouhan asked the commissioners and collectors to send proposals to the relief commissioner for financial assistance to ensure transportation of dirking water in case of crisis. He gave these instructions through video conferencing Samadhan Online programme at Mantralaya here..
     The Chief Minster asked the collectors to have coordination with the Department of Energy for uninterrupted functioning of electricity-based tapped water schemes. He gave instructions  to repair the hand pumps and stop water wherever possible.
     As a part of 6th Jalabhishek Abhiyan, over 1500 villages will be made self-reliant in Madhya Pradesh. Around 4500 groups of small and marginal farmers will be formed and river dialogue (Nadi Samvad) will be presided by district in-charge minister. On this occasion, water procession (Jal Yatra) will also be taken out. Informing about this, Panchayat and Rural Development and Social Justice Minister Mr Gopal Bhargava said that a budget for water conservation will be allocated and villagers will be made self-reliant through available resources of water in the villages.
     Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Mr Bhargava further said that the state government had drawn up a strategy to make Jalabhishek Abhiyan effective.
Five villages of each 313 blocks of 50 districts will be selected where crops are depending upon rainwater and irrigation facilities are not available as well as water table is deepening. Such water crisis facing villages will be overcome with identification net planning under water management and conservation programme.
      An integrated strategy will be chalked out to ensure water supply in order to make the villages self-reliant.
      Under the Jalabhishek Abhiyan, 15 groups of small and marginalised farmers will be formed in every selected development block. The farmers of the groups will hold discussion and take decisions on works to save water individually and in collectively under water management and conservation campaign. The state government will provide all possible helps under the government schemes.
      Under Jalabhishek Abhiyan-2010, the work of river recharging was taken up on priority in the state. For this water procession will be taken out with holding river dialogue programme. During the Jal Yatra and Nadi Samwad, work will be initiated at the catchments area of selected river to conserve and maintain water and water level.
