After Faruqui and Narang, plagiarism by another litterateur comes to fore

Kaleemuddin Ahmad, the great
plagiarist of Urdu poetry

In 2010, while referring to an Urdu book titled “Falsafa Ma Ba’ad Jadeediat” (post-modern philosophy) by a UK-based Pakistani, Shahid Imran Bhandar, which alleged that a renowned Urdu critic of India, Gopi Chand Narang, had plagiarised a major portion of one of his books from a book of foreign literature while claiming that he had been subscribing to the same philosophical views, Siddiqui said that he had already pointed out such things in Urdu literature and that it was not fair to treat such people as heroes of Urdu literature and genuine critics.
Famous critic Shamsur Rahman Faruqui has also plagiarized Dr Abu Mohammad Sahar’s book (Urdu Imla Aur Uski Islaah).
Now another name has been added to the list of plagiarists and that is late Kaleemuddin Ahmad, who was a self-proclaimed critic and so-called poet. In an article “Kaleemuddin Ahmad ki Musta’ar Shairi” published in Daily Nadeem, Bhopal, Dr. Manazir Ashiq Harganwi has quoted several poets of great Urdu poets, which have been lifted by Kaleem in his collections “Bayalees Nazmen” and “Pachchees Nazmen”. Some of the examples include

Kaleem:
Balandi mein jiski zameen asmaan hai
Maseeha bhi hairan hai kiska makaan hai
Atish:
Ye kis rashk-e-Maseeha ka makaan hai
Zameen hai ya chahurm asmaan hai
Kaleem:
Har ek phool dekho yahaan zar bakaf hai
Lutaaya hai qaroon nay apna khazana
Atish
Zer zameen say aata hai jo gul so zar bakaf
Qaroon nay raaste mein lutaaya khazana kya
Kaleem
Main hoon mushtaq wo mujh say hai saraasar bazaar
Yaa ilaahi main kidhar jaaoon, karoon kya dil ko
Ghalib
Main hoon mushtaq aur wo bazaar
Yaa ilaahi ye majra kya hai
Kaleem:
Meray quran ko seene say lagayaa tum nay
Meray kaabe ko jabeenon say sajaaya tum nay
Iqbal:
Teray quran ko seene say lagaya ham nay
Teray kaabe ko jabeenon say sajaaya ham nay

There are a lot of other examples in the article. It is a matter of grave concern that such plagiarists like Gopi Chand Narang, Shamsur Reman Faruqui are still active and reaping rich harvests of their plagiarism by getting honour after honours while several of them like Kaleemuddin Ahmad are no more but they had been successful in etching their names in the world of Urdu literature.
